What You Need to Know About Pine Furniture, by Ericssons.
Ericssons Mattress & Pine has been well-known in Gauteng for many decades, initially as a supplier of premium quality pine furniture and a variety of décor elements, also featuring or made of this attractive species of wood.
We’ve always focused on obtaining quality cured pine for our range of products. Fun Facts About Pine
- In South Africa, more pine is sold than any other type of wood.
- Sustainably farmed and responsibly managed and harvested, South Africanspecies are not threatened or endangered. Selecting such productsmeans making an eco-friendly choice.
- This tree species isn’t originally indigenous but was introduced to SA a long time ago.
- It’s a lightweight wood when compared with other species.
- It offers an affordable solid wood furniture-making option.
- It’s a comparatively soft wood, which should be sealed to prevent warping and moisture damage. A suitable sealant protects the integrity of the wood, acts as a barrier against invasive wood-boring insects, and prepares the surface to produce an even finish when stained or painted.
- Carpenters, woodworkers, cabinet and furniture makers find this wood relatively easy to work with because it’s not hardwood.
- It has a distinctive, obvious grain and is a pale yellow to white in colour in its raw, natural state.
- It often displays dark brown or knots that are considerably darker than the piece, which some regard as one of itsmost attractive features. Moreover, distinguishing markings and slight irregularities are natural features, which distinguish the genuine article from that which is engineered or human-made.
- Suitable for staining successfully in a variety of stain colours to match or complement existing décor elements, other furniture or accent pieces.
- Some like plain and natural; others prefer an enhanced finish, for which there are options galore, especially for those who make a hobby of or a living by experimenting with different paint techniques.
Due to the demand for our pine furniture, plus – most importantly, the convenience of our customers, many of whom have been furnishing their kitchens, lounges, bedrooms, studies and home offices with Ericssons’ ranges of merchandise for many years, we have established four retail showroom outlets.
Convenient Locations
Three are in and near Pretoria, and then there’s also our long-established showroom and sales outlet in Jet Park, a light industrial/warehousing/mixed-use and residential suburb of Boksburg, in the Gauteng/Johannesburg area’s East Rand.
Our Pretoria outlets are respectively located at The Willows/Die Wilgers, on the eastern side of the Jacaranda City, in Pretoria West on Maltzan Street, and in thriving Centurion, a city that is situated only about a ten to fifteen minute drive from central Pretoria, in the direction of Midrand and Johannesburg.
