We selected pine because it is plentiful in South Africa and sustainably harvested from massive pine plantations. Additionally, SA pine is a great timber with which to work, because it isn’t known as particularly hard wood. Moreover, cut and cured pine has a lovely, distinctive grain, typically featuring the timber’s occasional knots.
Local pine is also affordable. This suited us at Ericssons because we had a goal in mind – to become one of South Africa’s most favourite and trusted family furniture suppliers, known for our fairly priced merchandise without sacrificing on quality. At the time, we didn’t yet stock a variety of base sets and top-end mattresses.
A Welcome Addition
Base sets would only be added to our merchandise range somewhat later. We welcomed these products to our collection of sleep systems and our company’s name was changed accordingly to better reflect our growing variety of products.
